Revs to Host Pair of SUPERLIGA 2008 Matches

FOXBOROUGH, Mass - Major League Soccer and the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol today released the participants, locations and full competition schedule for SuperLiga 2008, which includes two matches at Gillette Stadium. For the second year in a row, SuperLiga will award the tournament champion a $1 million purse - the largest prize in North American soccer history.

The Revolution, which has been drawn into Group B with Chivas USA (MLS), Santos Laguna (MEX) and defending SuperLiga champion CF Pachuca, will host two matches at Gillette Stadium during SuperLiga group play.

The tournament kicks off on Saturday, July 12 and will run through Tuesday, Aug. 5, when the championship match is scheduled to take place. The entire 2008 SuperLiga tournament will once again be broadcast live on TeleFutura in the United States.

On Sunday, July 13, New England will welcome Santos to Foxborough, in a match that is set to kick off at 8 p.m. ET. On Wednesday, July 16, the Revs will host the tournament's inaugural champion, Pachuca, at 8 p.m. ET. The Revolution will wrap up group play on Sunday, July 20, when the team travels across the country to take on Chivas USA in Los Angeles, Calif., at 8 p.m. ET at a venue that is yet to be determined.

Season ticket holders have both of the Revolution's home matches in group play of SuperLiga included in their season ticket packages, as the games against Santos and Pachuca will serve as Special Soccer Events A and B, respectively.

"We're very excited to have earned our place in SuperLiga this year," Revolution General Manager Craig Tornberg said. "After just one year, SuperLiga has proven to be an extraordinary competition between some of North America's top clubs. It was popular with fans across the country, and games were filled with passion and heart on both sides of the field. We're anxious to host games at Gillette Stadium in July, and to replicate that same pride and passion here."

Competitive criteria determined which four teams would represent their respective leagues in this year's SuperLiga. From MLS, the four clubs earned berths based on their regular season records from 2007: Supporter's Shield winner D.C. United, Western Conference champion Chivas USA, MLS Cup 2007 champion Houston Dynamo and MLS Cup finalist New England Revolution. Representing Mexico's Primera Division are four of the top clubs from the 2007 Apertura season: 2007 Apertura champion Atlante, 11-time Mexican League champion CD Guadalajara, two-time Mexican Primera Division champion Santos Laguna and the 2007 SuperLiga champion Pachuca CF.

Group A includes D.C. United, Houston Dynamo, CD Guadalajara and Atlante.

During the inaugural edition of SuperLiga in 2007, Pachuca earned the crown when it defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy in a match decided by penalty kicks at The Home Depot Center on Aug. 30.
