FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution goalkeeper Brad Knighton was chosen by the Philadelphia Union with one of its 10 selections in the 2009 MLS Expansion Draft, which took place on Wednesday. Knighton just completed his third MLS season, all with the Revolution.

The Revolution also announced that the team has waived forward Stephane Assengue.

Knighton, 24, signed with the Revolution in 2007 following a preseason tryout. After 10 appearances in the former MLS Reserve Division in 2007 and 2008, Knighton made his MLS debut in 2009, earning a 1-1 draw at New York on March 28 at Giants Stadium. Knighton went on to make six starts in the regular season, going 1-2-3 with a 2.33 goals against average, while he also appeared in the Revolution's U.S. Open Cup loss to the Harrisburg City Islanders. The Richmond, Va., native earned his first career MLS win on April 4, making nine saves in a 2-1 win over FC Dallas.

MLS held its 2009 Expansion Draft on Wednesday for the league's 16th team, Philadelphia Union, allowing the team to begin constructing its roster for the 2010 season. Philly selected one player each from 10 of the other 15 MLS teams.

FC Dallas, the Houston Dynamo, the Kansas City Wizards, Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC were the five teams that did not have a player selected in the draft. Each of the 15 teams was allowed to protect 11 players, leaving all others unprotected and available for selection by the Union.

Below is the complete list of players selected in the 2009 MLS Expansion Draft:

* Jordan Harvey (Colorado Rapids)

* Andrew Jacobsen (D.C. United)

* Brad Knighton (New England Revolution)

* Sebastien Le Toux (Seattle Sounders FC)

* Stefani Miglioranzi (LA Galaxy)

* Alejandro Moreno (Columbus Crew)

* Dave Myrie (Chicago Fire)

* Shea Salinas (San Jose Earthquakes)

* Shavar Thomas (Chivas USA)

* Nick Zimmerman (New York Red Bulls)

The Philadelphia Union will begin play in the Eastern Conference in the 2010 season. The club will play its home opener at Lincoln Financial Field on April 10, 2010, and open its home stadium, Union Field, during the 2010 season.

Assengue, 19, played one season with the Revolution after signing with the club on March 26, 2009. He made two substitute appearances in the regular season, while he made his only start in the Revs' U.S. Open Cup match against Harrisburg. With his debut on May 3 against Houston, he became the fifth-youngest player to ever appear in a match for the Revolution (18 years, 346 days).

The 2010 MLS SuperDraft is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 14, in Philadelphia, while the Revolution is scheduled to open the 2010 season on the road against the LA Galaxy on Saturday, March 27, at The Home Depot Center.
