York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution set a club record for runs in a game, running the Long Island Ducks off the field with a 22-6 victory in front of 5,597 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Friday evening. The Revs pull within 4.5 games of first place in the Freedom Division while maintaining a 5.5-game lead in the wild card race. York will host the Ducks again on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
The Revs got off to a fast start, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. After loading the bases with no outs in the first, a 1-2-3 double play off the bat of Andres Perez had the Revs on the cusp of being denied, but a throwing error by Long Island shortstop Dan Lyons allowed a pair of runs to score, spotting York the 2-0 lead. Scott Grimes and Jeff Fiorentino added sacrifice flies an inning later to make it 4-0 early.
The Revs tied their season high for runs in an inning for the second time in six days with an eight-spot in the third, turning it into an early rout. Chris Nowak landed the first haymaker with a two-run home run to left, his league-leading 25th of the season tying his own club record set a year ago. It was also the 50th home run of his York career, as he becomes the first in Revs history to reach that mark.
Salomon Manriquez later launched a towering two-run homer to left, before Scott Grimes lined a rocket over the big wall in left to make it back-to-back home runs. The three home runs tied a club record for one inning, having occurred only one other time in a game against Bridgeport on July 22, 2008.
The huge rally continued as Joe Thurston added an RBI double to right-center, as did Perez on a ball that was lost in the twilight in center field before dropping in. Nowak finalized the eight-run inning with an RBI single up the middle, as the lead ballooned to 12-0.
Revs starter Derrick Gordon breezed through the first three innings, but after a lengthy stay on the bench in the third, seemed to lose his rhythm allowing five runs in the fourth on a two-run single by Matt Esquivel and a three-run homer to left from Lee Cruz before being yanked.
York went on to score 10 unanswered, however, making it no contest. Nowak and Johan Limonta each provided RBI singles in the fifth inning, and the Revs enjoyed another monstrous inning scoring seven times in the sixth. Brandon Haveman blistered a two-run double up the third base line to start the scoring. Perez then singled home a run, with another scoring on a throwing error by center fielder Kraig Binick. Hernandez drove in another run with a single to center, before an error by third baseman Bryant Nelson allowed the final two runs to score.
Perez lined an RBI double to right in the seventh for the Revs' club record 22nd run of the night, eclipsing the previous total set in a 21-8 win over Lancaster on September 10, 2010.
Long Island scored one last run in the eighth on a solo homer to left from Esquivel.
York reliever Wade Korpi (4-0) earned the win, allowing no hits in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Long Island starter Jino Gonzalez (0-1) suffered the loss, charged with the first seven runs (five earned) in his 2.1 innings.
York 's 23 hits tied the third most in a game in club history, and are the most in a game since the 2010 season. The hit totals were led by Manriquez who went 4-for-6 on the night, and is now 10-for-18 over his last four games played. Every York starter had a hit, while eight of the nine had multi-hit nights.
Thurston and Perez each scored four runs, while Nowak drove in a team-high four, taking over the league's RBI lead with 83 on the season.
The Revs improve to 10-8 against Long Island for the year, and have won each of the last six meetings at home. York will look to extend that streak on Saturday night with Corey Thurman (11-3, 4.09) on the mound against Bob Zimmermann (5-9, 4.62). It is Wedding Night presented by First Capital Federal Credit Union. Married couples with tickets may renew their vows at the game, and AAA will provide a cruise from Royal Caribbean to one lucky couple. There will also be Postgame Fireworks presented by PA Lottery and media sponsor GameTimePA.com. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
