Revs Complete Sweep with 5-3 Victory
July 26, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution completed a three-game series sweep of the Camden Riversharks on Sunday evening with a thrilling 5-3 victory on Hunger Games Night at Santander Stadium. The Revs have won five of their last six overall and five consecutive home games, remaining within one game of Lancaster for first place in the Freedom Division's second half. York will look to continue the momentum on the road with a seven-game trip beginning Tuesday night at Southern Maryland.
Shawn Hill made his first home start since joining Team Canada for the Pan Am Games in Toronto and came through with a solid outing, tossing six innings of one-run ball and allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out five to earn his second straight victory.
The only run off Hill (3-7) came in the first inning, when Mike Costanzo hit a two-out single up the middle to put the Riversharks up 1-0.
That would be the only lead of the game for Camden, as Mikey Reynolds tied the game at 1-1 with a solo shot to left-center in the bottom of the first off of Riversharks starter Bill Murphy, his third career home run and first with York.
Andres Perez gave the Revs the lead in the fourth with a sac fly to center, scoring Yeicok Calderon who had rapped a triple to right-center, putting York ahead 2-1.
The Revs added a run on another sac fly an inning later, this time from Eric Patterson, which increased the lead to 3-1.
Camden would get one of those runs back in the seventh off of reliever Edward Paredes, as Jose Gil singled to right to slash the lead to 3-2.
The Revs entered the eighth looking to add some insurance runs and Perez did exactly that, blasting the 43rd homer of his Revs career, this one of the two-run variety on a drive to left-center, staking the Revs to a 5-2 lead. Perez moved ahead of Jason Aspito into sole possession of third in Revs history in homers, while pulling within two of tying Scott Grimes for second (45) on the all-time list.
York endured another eventful ninth inning as Josh Judy ran into some trouble, allowing a leadoff single to Joel Guzman, followed by a wild pitch, and a run on a Costanzo single. Tony Pena then relieved Judy and struck out Ryan Strieby for the first out, but allowed Evan Crawford to reach on an infield single. With runners on first and second, Pena induced a bloop to right off the bat of Gil that could have spelled major trouble, if not for a sprawling catch from right fielder Brandon Boggs who entered at the top of the inning as a defense substitution. After a walk to load the bases, Pena would lock down his first save for the Revs, retiring Brandon Chaves on a foul pop to third base to secure the sweep.
Notes: Hill has allowed just two runs on five hits in 11.0 innings over his two starts since returning from the Pan Am Games, winning both outings. Hill faced the minimum from the second through the fifth innings. Reynolds and Calderon each went 3-for-4. The home run for Reynolds was his first since 2013 with Danville of the Appalachian League. Calderon's 3-for-4 night follows a 4-for-5 game in Saturday's win, as he has gone a combined 7-for-9 over the last two contests. Perez led the team with three RBI on the day. The Revs improve to 9-8 in the second half, climbing above .500 for the first time since starting 1-0. The sweep is the Revs' second of the season and first at home; their last sweep occurred May 5-7 in Lancaster. The Revs have belted 10 home runs over the last seven games and 18 homers over the last 16 contests. York improves to 8-2 vs. Camden this season having won the last six meetings head-to-head. The Revs played an error-free game for the fourth time in the last seven contests. Revs lefty Frank Gailey (2-2, 1.63) will face Southern Maryland southpaw Wade Korpi (3-2, 6.10) in Tuesday's opener at Regency Furniture Stadium at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
