Cold Spell Continues for Skeeters' Bats as Sugar Land Loses, 2-1

July 26, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

SUGAR LAND, Texas - For the second-straight night, the Sugar Land Skeeters only mustered one run in a 2-1 pitcher's duel to the Lancaster Barnstormers in front of 4,786 fans at Constellation Field. Sugar Land drops to 7-10 in the second half and 43-44 overall with the setback.

Sugar Land starting pitcher Tim Stauffer hurled a gem, despite being saddled with the loss. The 10-year veteran of Major League baseball tossed 7.0 innings, giving up two runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts. He falls to 1-1 after the setback and has a 1.69 ERA in three starts with the Skeeters.

After both sides exchanged zeroes for the first four and a half innings, the Skeeters finally broke through for a run on Lancasters' Bryan Morgado. Allan Dykstra was drilled on a 1-0 offering with one out before Patrick Palmeiro blasted a double off the wall in straightaway centerfield, scoring Dykstra easily from first to stake Sugar Land to a 1-0 advantage.

The lead would be short-lived for Sugar Land, however, as the Barnstormers struck for a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Stauffer surrendered a walk to Yusuke Kajimoto to lead off the inning before Brian Cavazos-Galvez lifted Stauffer's first-pitch offering to left for a two-run home run, giving Lancaster a 2-1 lead.

Relievers Andrew Johnston and Derrick Loop along with Stauffer combined to retire the final nine Barnstormers of the game, but the offense only accounted for three hits en-route to the loss.
