York Revolution News Release
York, Pa. - The York Revolution dropped their series opener to the Bridgeport Bluefish, 6-0 on Friday night in front of 4,641 fans at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs (60-44, 20-14) have dropped back-to-back home games for just the fourth time all season, and will look to even the series on Saturday night.
Bluefish righty David Kubiak (5-3) danced out of trouble all night long to get through six scoreless innings. He allowed four hits, walked five, and hit one batter while striking out eight on 110 pitches.
York right-hander James Simmons (9-5) was saddled with the loss after giving up four runs on 10 hits in six innings. He has now pitched at least six frames in 16 of his 20 starts this season.
Jose Gil led off the top of the second with a single, then Jonathan Galvez dropped down a surprise bunt for a base hit of his own. After a sacrifice moved them up, Luis Nunez slashed a hanging curve into left for a two-run base hit, moving up to third base after an overthrow from the outfield. Luis Hernandez then doubled home Nunez, and the Bluefish went up 3-0 in the inning.
Reigning Atlantic League batting champion Sean Burroughs socked a solo home run to the lawn in right center to add a cushion in the fifth inning. The home run was the first of an injury-plagued season for Burroughs, who the Bluefish reacquired from Long Island on August 1.
The Revs had many a chance against Kubiak. Kevin Rivers walked and Michael Rockett doubled to lead off the fourth, then after a strikeout Bryan Pounds was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kubiak would buckle down, though, striking out Brian Erie and inducing a flyout from Josh Wilson to get out of the jam.
York loaded the bases in the fifth on a Joel Guzman double and walks to Rivers and Rockett, all with two outs, but Brandon Chaves grounded out to short and the Revs again went away empty-handed.
Paul Demny came on for the seventh inning and the Revs loaded the bases against him, but Chaves bounced out to first for a force out to strand three more. York stranded 12 men on base in the game, including nine in the fourth, fifth, and seventh combined.
Burroughs tacked on some more Bridgeport runs in the ninth, bleeding a two-out, two-run single through the right side of the infield to give the game its final margin. He finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Guzman led the way for York, going 2-for-5 with a double in York's first multi-hit game in its last three contests.
Kevin Rivers walked in all four of his plate appearances on the evening, tying a Revs record for most walks in a game. The most recent to do it was Eric Patterson in 2015.
