New England Revolution News Release

MEXICO CITY - The New England Revolution visit LIGA MX side Club América at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City for Leg 2 of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 9, trailing 4-0 on aggregate. The match kicks off at 10:30 p.m. ET and airs nationally in the United States on FOX Sports 1 (English) and TUDN (Spanish). Listen locally on the radio in Portuguese on 1260 AM "Nossa Radio USA".

New England heads into the second leg of the home-and-away series needing to make up a four-goal deficit to advance past the reigning LIGA MX champions and seven-time Champions Cup winners. The match marks the Revolution's first visit to Estadio Azteca, regarded as one of the most historic soccer venues across the globe as the only venue to host two FIFA Men's World Cup finals in 1970 and 1986. Club América's home stadium sits at an altitude of approximately 7,200 feet and features a capacity of 87,523, ranking it among the largest venues in the world.

The Revolution will need an offensive outburst to climb back into the series, as the team looks to improve on a 3-1-1 record in the tournament, including a 1-0-1 mark on the road. New England earned a 1-0 win away from home in Round One vs. CA Independiente, before battling to a 1-1 draw at LD Alajuelense in the Round of 16, a 5-1 aggregate victory. Revolution striker Tomás Chancalay, who featured on the Round of 16 Best XI, ranks tied for second with four goals scored in the tournament.

Before falling to Club América in Leg 1, New England had performed well through the first two rounds of the tournament, posting three clean sheets in its first four games. The Revolution added the fourth shutout of 2024, all with goalkeeper Henrich Ravas in net, in the team's first victory of the MLS regular season on Saturday over Charlotte FC. Captain Carles Gil led the Revolution with the game-winning goal in first-half stoppage time, an unassisted tally off a rebound created by his brother Nacho's shot attempt. Gil is now one of five Revolution players with 40 goals and 40 assists for the club in all competitions. Gil's three tallies, all in MLS play, trail only Chancalay's four goals for the team scoring lead.

One of three MLS teams remaining in the tournament, New England will need to win by a 4-0 scoreline to force a penalty shootout, or win by a five-goal margin or greater to advance to the Semifinal Round. A draw with more than four goals scored by each side would also see the Revolution through to the final four. Any less will see New England exit the continental tournament in the Quarterfinal Round for the second consecutive time (2022). After Tuesday's contest, New England will resume the MLS campaign on Saturday, April 13 at New York City FC (7:30 p.m. ET).
