York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.): The York Revolution will hold an open tryout for the 2009 roster on Saturday, April 4. Representatives from the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League, and the American Defenders of New Hampshire of the Canadian-American Association will also be on hand. Though the tryout will be run by the Revolution, attending players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills for three different organizations.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on April 4 at Sovereign Bank Stadium, and last until 9 a.m. The cost of attending the tryout is $45.00, and must be paid in cash only the day of the tryout. Athletes will fill out all the necessary paperwork and register that morning.

The $45.00 application fee includes an Under Armour t-shirt for each athlete. Registration will take place in the Bud Light Picnic Pavilion at the back of Sovereign Bank Stadium. Athletes should park at the Queen Street lot closest to that entrance.

At 9 a.m. the tryout will begin, where the Revolution staff will be introduced; Manager Chris Hoiles, Pitching Coach Tippy Martinez, Third Base/Hitting Coach Sam Snider and Director of Baseball Operations Adam Gladstone. From 9:05 to 9:20 athletes will stretch, before throwing to conclude warm-ups. From there the infielders, pitchers and catchers will break apart for various drills followed by hitting. The tryout is estimated to end around Noon. The Revolution coaching staff and the others in attendance will then speak with anyone they are still interested in.

"We know what we're looking for when we put our team together, but you never know who is out there that could help us," said Revolution Director of Baseball Operations Adam Gladstone. "Our tryout is truly unique in that you're showing your skills to three teams for the price of one."

Players with a military background should be especially interested in the tryout, as Boston Baseball All-Stars, the group that runs the American Defenders, also operates a travel team of U.S. Military All-Stars. Boston Baseball All-Stars is headed by former Red Sox General Manager Dan Duquette.

"They travel all over the country and world playing the game, so we'd be interested in checking out any players at high level that have military experience," said GM Chris Hall.

The Revolution will provide (wood) bats, balls and helmets for the tryout, and anyone trying out must sign a waiver before participating in the workout. All athletes will sign the waiver upon arrival at Sovereign Bank Stadium on April 4, and must be at least 18 years of age to tryout.

Season tickets and mini-plans for the 2009 season are now on sale. Opening Day is May 1 against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
