York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution earned an important win, taking the final game of their homestand 7-2 over the Long Island Ducks in front of 3,739 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The Revs improve to 13-14, just 1.5 games back, and will hit the road for a trip to Bridgeport and Camden on Friday night.

The Revs scored all seven runs off Ducks starter Sidney Ponson (3-3), chasing him after 2.2 innings. They racked up seven hits against the former big leaguer, including a homer and a season high-tying five doubles.

Ramon Castro drove in the first run on a first inning sac fly, that was dropped by right fielder John Rodriguez for the first of three Long Island errors on the day.

In the second, Chuck Jeroloman smacked an 0-2 pitch down the right field line for an RBI double, and Scott Grimes followed suit with an RBI infield single on another 0-2 pitch.

Jose Herrera led off the fourth with a homer to right, while John Pachot drove in a run with a single, Jeroloman plated one more with another RBI double, and Grimes pushed home the final tally on a bloop single to right, ending Ponson's day early.

The offensive onslaught came in support of starter Jesus Sanchez (3-1), who tossed scoreless ball for the second consecutive start, running his scoreless streak to 14 innings. The lefty scattered five singles and struck out five while walking just three.

Long Island broke up the shutout on a two-run homer by Erick Monzon in the eighth.

Several Revs had big offensive days. Grimes was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Pachot was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run. Jeroloman smacked two RBI doubles, and made an incredible diving stop on a grounder, starting a double play in the ninth.

The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Revs, who finish the homestand 3-4, and will head on the road to Bridgeport for the first of three on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Shane Youman faces Kyle Jackson in the opener, which can be heard on SportsRadio 1350 WOYK, Shoutcast.com (search WPDC) which is also available on smart phones, and on YorkRevsTV.com with the internet telecast. The broadcast begins at 6:35 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call from southern Connecticut.
