Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Camden Riversharks 10-4 on Thursday night at TD Bank Ballpark.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Center fielder Wayne Lydon started it off with a single, right fielder Joe Holden walked, designated hitter Noah Hall reached on a fielder's choice, and second baseman Matt Hagen hit into a fielder's choice to score Lydon.
Somerset added a run in the bottom of the third inning after Lydon singled, stole second, and scored on a single by Hall for the 2-0 advantage.
The Riversharks scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead. First baseman Chris Malec singled, catcher Raul Padron doubled to plate Malec, and third baseman Brian Burgamy doubled to score Padron. Second baseman Cesar Suarez then doubled to bring home Burgamy for the 3-2 lead.
The Patriots scored two in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead after shortstop Elliott Ayala doubled and Lydon singled to drive him home. Lydon then stole second and third and scored on an RBI groundout by Holden to make the score 4-3.
Somerset extended the lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ayala walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on an RBI single by Holden. After Holden was caught stealing, Hall tripled and scored on a wild pitch for a 6-3 lead.
The Patriots stretched the lead to 10-3 with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, highlighted by a two-run bases loaded single by third baseman Iggy Suarez.
Patriots starter Justin Jones (3-0) picked up the win, allowing three runs on seven hits and five strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched. Camden starter Brad Knox (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in six innings pitched. Jeff Kennard earned his first save of the season for Somerset.
