September 13, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Waldorf, MD September 13, 2015) ---The main storyline surrounding tonight's ballgame was the return of RHP Jake Hale. Jake returned to the mound after a two month hiatus because of a finger injury. At the time of his injury, Jake ranked in the top ten in wins, innings pitched, ERA, and opponents' batting average. Tonight was a sour return for Jake as he was roughed up in 3.1 innings pitched, allowing eight runs on eight hits, leading the downfall for the Blue Crabs in their 11-1 loss this evening.
The Revolution got the scoring started in the top of the second off a three run homerun from Luis De La Cruz over the wall in left center to make it 3-0 York. For the second consecutive evening the Revolution batted around in the top of the fourth inning, and in the process sending 11 men to the plate to hit. In total, York scored seven runs on seven hits in the frame. With runners at second and third, Nick Ferdinand ripped a single to left allowing Telvin Nash, and Luis De La Cruz to score. The next hitter James Simmons lifted a high drive over the wall in left center for a two runs shot. Mikey Reynolds and Andres Perez each contributed with two RBIs apiece.
Despite giving up one run, RHP Cody Scarpetta was on point for the Revolution, going six innings, allowing a run, on three hits, and striking out eight. The bullpen combination of RHP Beau Vaughn, RHP Stephen Penney, and RHP Matt Neil pitched three scoreless innings. In addition the pitching staff surrendered just four hits overall to the Southern Maryland offense.
Tonight was the final home game for Southern Maryland. The Blue Crabs finished with a record 35-34 at home in the 2015 campaign. They will hit the road for a seven game homestand to finish the season, starting first with three games against Lancaster, and finishing with the Bridgeport Bluefish for a four game series next weekend.
Tomorrow's ballgame is set to start in Lancaster at 7:05 P.M. The RHP Daniel Moskos (2-0, 3.86) will be on the hill for Lancaster, while RHP Tim Sexton (1-0, 3.29) will toe the rubber for Southern Maryland.
