FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution have re-signed American defender DeJuan Jones to a new four-year contract through the 2027 Major League Soccer season. The United States international, who is currently in January Camp with the United States Men's National Team, is set to begin his sixth MLS season with the Revolution in 2024.
"DeJuan Jones has emerged into one of Major League Soccer's better outside backs during his five seasons with our club," Revolution Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said. "DeJuan is a tremendous talent, a respected teammate, and a pillar in the local community, all of which make him an important part of our team moving forward. We are thrilled to have DeJuan in a Revolution uniform for years to come."
Jones, 26, was selected by the Revolution with the 11th-overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and has established himself as one of the most dynamic outside defenders in MLS. Entering 2024, Jones is one of only three MLS defenders to have recorded five-or-more assists in each of the last three seasons. Since the start of 2020, Jones ranks second among all MLS defenders with 24 goal contributions. Over that same four-season span, he has totaled 115 chances created, according to Opta, fourth most among MLS defenders.
"DeJuan is the ideal profile in our game model and I'm very pleased he will remain a key part of our team for the foreseeable future," Head Coach Caleb Porter added. "His elite athleticism and range to play box to box as an attacking threat and 1-v-1 defender make him a valuable asset to our team. I look forward to working with DeJuan when he joins us during preseason in Florida next week."
"I am delighted to announce my decision to extend my journey with the Revolution. I would like to thank the entire club for supporting me since day one," Jones added. "This club has become my home and the bond I share with the fans, the organization, and New England is truly special. I've given my all to this club for the past five years and I'm eager to contribute to more success as we work towards our ultimate goal of winning an MLS Cup."
Across five seasons with New England, Jones has amassed 125 league appearances and 111 starts, with six goals and 20 assists. The Michigan State alum has helped propel New England to the MLS Cup Playoffs in four of his five seasons with the club, registering an additional eight postseason starts. His seven assists in both 2022 and 2023 represent the most by a Revolution defender in a single season, a record he shares with fellow outside back Brandon Bye. In New England's historic 2021 campaign, Jones set then-career highs with 31 games played, three goals, and five assists to help claim the Supporters' Shield title with an MLS-record 73 regular season points.
At the international level, Jones continues to carve out a role with the United States Men's National Team, having earned five call-ups to date, including the ongoing January Camp in Orlando, Fla. ahead of a friendly against Slovenia on Jan. 20. Jones owns three assists across his seven senior caps, including two helpers in four starts at the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. He won his first cap in January 2023 in a friendly against Serbia.
In addition to his contributions on the field, Jones has cemented himself as a Revolution fan favorite for his work in the New England community. Every fall, Jones leads a back-to-school shopping spree for dozens of Boston-area families and helps feed hundreds of families through his annual Turkey Club fundraiser with the Providence Rescue Mission, which helped provide Thanksgiving meals to around 500 families in 2023.
After January Camp, Jones will rejoin the Revolution early in the club's preseason at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. New England, led by new Head Coach Caleb Porter, will open the 2024 slate in Panama on Wednesday, Feb. 21 against CA Independiente (8:00 p.m. ET - FOX Sports/TUDN) in Round One of the Concacaf Champions Cup. New England then begins the 2024 MLS regular season on Saturday, Feb. 24 at D.C. United (7:30 p.m. ET - MLS Season Pass).
