FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - In honor of the events of Sept. 11, 2001, the New England Revolution and New England Revolution Charitable Foundation have planned a series of events and activities at tonight's Major League Soccer match against Chivas USA at Gillette Stadium (7 p.m. kickoff, TV: ESPN2/ESPN Deportes, Radio: WEEI Radio Network).

Among the activities planned for this evening's game are:

More than 3,000 complimentary tickets have been donated to members of the military, police, fire and first responders as part of "Salute to Heroes Night"

Large flag on-field for the national anthem, presented by members of the Massachusetts Army National Guard and Hanscom Air Force Base (Bedford, Mass.)

A fly-over by Blackhawk helicopters from Otis Air National Guard Base (Falmouth, Mass.)

Anthem will be sung by "Voices of Freedom," a local military group from the 215th Army Band (Fall River, Mass.)

"God Bless America" will be sung at halftime by Katherine Doherty, a Dover, Mass., native who has appeared on Broadway in "Mary Poppins"

Both the Revolution and Chivas USA will wear commemorative patches on their sleeves that are replicas of the patches MLS teams wore after the attacks in 2001

The first 5,000 fans in the stadium gates will receive a small American flag

Deflated soccer balls are being collected at stadium gates in cooperation with Operation Soccer Ball, which will send them to Iraq for distribution to the country's children

Finally, each of the game-worn jerseys from the 11 Revolution starters from tonight's match will be up for auction at http://revsjerseys.cmarket.com. One hundred percent of the proceeds of the auction will go to the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund, which was established earlier in 2008 to provide programs and services to families of members of the military fallen in service to the United States. The patch on the left sleeve is a crest with the Statue of Liberty overlaying the U.S. flag in the background. Each player will also sign the jersey he wore in the match.
