New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution (0-4-1; 1 pt.) will host Charlotte FC (2-2-2; 8 pts.) on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and is available to watch on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish. Listen to New England's local radio calls on 98.5 The Sports Hub, with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies in the booth, and on 1260 AM "Nossa Radio USA" in Portuguese.
New England closes its three-game MLS homestand on Saturday night, looking to add to its streak of three consecutive victories over Charlotte FC. The Revolution collected their first point of the 2024 regular season in the club's most recent league match, a 1-1 draw with Chicago Fire FC at Gillette Stadium on March 23. Midfielder Nacho Gil scored his first New England's goal in the closing minutes of the first half, marking the Spaniard's first MLS tally. The match marked Revolution Head Coach Caleb Porter's 300th regular season match, making him one of six active MLS managers to reach the milestone.
The Revolution swept the season series over the Crowns last season, including a 2-1 victory at Gillette Stadium on Sept. 30 behind goals from Homegrown midfielder Noel Buck and defender Dave Romney, who netted the game winner. New England, 3-1-0 in the all-time series against the 2022 MLS expansion side, has outscored Charlotte FC by a 5-2 margin in the last three encounters. Midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye has enjoyed success against Charlotte, with a team-high three assists in four career meetings.
Saturday's match features two of the league's top Argentinian strikers in New England's Tomás Chancalay and Charlotte FC's Enzo Copetti. Chancalay and Copetti were former teammates at Argentinian side Racing Club from 2021-22. Both players are looking for their first goals of the 2024 league campaign, though Chancalay has tallied a team-high four goals in all competitions. His 26 shots rank fourth most in MLS this season, while Revolution captain Carles Gil ranks second leaguewide with 17 key passes on the year. On the defensive end, Dave Romney looks to add to his 40 consecutive regular season starts at center back, while outside back Nick Lima enters this weekend's contest one appearance shy of his 200th in MLS.
Charlotte FC enters this weekend's match in Foxborough following a 1-1 draw with FC Cincinnati last weekend. The Crowns, 0-2-1 on the road this season, carried a 1-0 lead into stoppage time before conceding a late game-tying goal. Charlotte FC Head Coach Dean Smith, a former English Premier League manager with Aston Villa, also Carles Gil's former club, is in his first season managing the club.
