York Revolution News Release
Ian Bladergroen crushed his third homerun in four games for the York Revolution, but that was the only run they could manage against Josh Miller and company on Tuesday night, dropping their opener to the Somerset Patriots 5-1 at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs, still in first place at 6-5, will look to get even on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
Miller (2-1) retired the first 13 batters he faced, tying the second longest streak to begin a game against the Revs in club history. He also carried a no-hitter through five, which is the fourth longest to begin a game against York.
His teammates spotted him a 2-0 lead meanwhile. Wayne Lydon led off the game with a double off the Arch Nemesis in left, moved to third on a throwing error by James Shanks, as his throw back to the infield bounced away from second, and scored on a sac fly to right by Ryan Freel. Iggy Suarez then lined a solo homer over the Nemesis in the third.
Those were the only two runs allowed by Revs starter Jesus Sanchez (1-1) who was impressive again. The lefty walked only one and struck out seven, while picking off a runner for the third consecutive start. He caught Freel on the move in the sixth, a play that officially went down as a caught stealing. Sanchez struck out the final two he faced, and three of his final four outs came via strikeout, with Freel's caught stealing the other out in that span. Sanchez will enter his next start with just four walks and 17 strikeouts in 15.0 innings. His six innings of work was the longest by a Revs starter early this season, and he also turned in York's first quality start of the year.
Bladergroen's homerun made it a 2-1 game in the bottom of the sixth, but it was the first of only three hits for the Revs on Tuesday night. Chuck Jeroloman and Charlie Lisk picked up the other two, but no hitters from the top of the order through the sixth spot in the lineup were able to manage a knock.
Somerset applied the fatal blow in the seventh, when Lydon grounded a ball down the first base line that was ruled fair, turning into a two-run triple. The Patriots tacked on one more in the ninth on a homerun to right by Tim Raines Jr.
Notes: The Revs have been held to a combined five hits in their last two home games, despite scoring a combined 23 runs on eight homers while batting .310 as a team in their three-game weekend series in Lancaster, in which they won two of the three games. York will look to rebound on Wednesday night with lefty Shane Youman on the mound, against southpaw Justin Jones. It is the Revs' annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at the ballpark, and it's another Wing Wednesday, with a two-hour all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink buffet in the picnic area. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
