Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

The Blue Crabs soundly defeated the Camden Riversharks 5-0 Tuesday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Right-hander Dan Reichert tossed a gem, pitching seven shutout innings with five strikeouts to earn his first win of the season. At the plate, third baseman Patrick Osborn led off the fourth with his second home run in as many games, a solo-shot, and designated hitter Matt Craig, a switch-hitting lefty, laced a rocket down the right field line for a three-run homer in the sixth.

Reichert (1-2), faced Riversharks righty Travis Chick, who struck out six Crabs but did not survive the second time through the batting order.

The Blue Crabs scored four of their five runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Shortstop Travis Garcia and Osborn led off the sixth with back-to-back singles. Then with one out, Craig roped his homer around the right field foul pole, his first as a Blue Crab. It was the first home run into the cavernous right field of Regency Furniture Stadium this season. The loss puts Chick at 0-1.

Meanwhile, Blue Crabs right-handed reliever Joe Newby replaced Reichert to start the eighth and pitched two scoreless innings to complete the shutout. For Southern Maryland, it was already their second shutout of the season, after topping the Long Island Ducks 1-0 on Saturday at home.

The Blue Crabs will play the middle game of this three-game series with the Camden Riversharks Wednesday morning, with a special 10:35 a.m. first pitch on the first Baseball In Education Day this season at Regency Furniture Stadium. LHP Sam Narron (2-0, 1.50) will get the start for the Sharks, opposite RHP Kenny Rayborn (1-0, 2.53) for the Crabs.
