PORTLAND, Ore. - The New England Revolution fell to Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 2-0, in a preseason match at Providence Park on Wednesday evening. Lucas Cavallini and Ali Adnan provided the scoring for Vancouver in the second of three games the Revolution will play as part of the Portland Timbers' preseason tournament.
The Revolution deployed a starting lineup that featured four Academy alumni, with veterans Diego Fagundez and Scott Caldwell playing alongside first-year midfielder Damian Rivera and Massachusetts native Justin Rennicks. They were supported along the backline by two of the club's 2020 MLS SuperDraft selections in Henry Kessler, who made his third start and fourth appearance of his rookie preseason, and Simon Lekressner. Two additional Homegrown Players made substitute appearances, as Isaac Angking and Nicolas Firmino came on for Rivera and Caldwell, respectively, in the second half.
Defenders Seth Sinovic, Michael Mancienne, and Lekressner all played 90 minutes in tonight's match, as did forwards Tajon Buchanan and Rennicks. Meanwhile, midfielder Luis Caicedo saw 30 minutes of action in his first appearance of preseason. Goalkeeper Brad Knighton made the start in net and posted one save in the first half, before he was replaced by Jeff Caldwell for the final 45 minutes.
New England will conclude the 2020 preseason on Saturday, Feb. 22 against the Portland Timbers in the final match of the tournament. The contest kicks off at 8:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed live for local audiences at Revolutionsoccer.net.
