Charlottetown Islanders News Release

While it seems like it's been said a few times already this year, the Charlottetown Islanders return to regular season play tonight.

After a short hiatus due to COVID-19 outbreaks in PEI and in Nova Scotia, the Islanders are resuming play tonight as they venture to Halifax to take on the Mooseheads tonight as Maritime Division play gets fully back in swing tonight.

The Islanders (21-4-0-0) were in the midst of yet another hot stretch of play prior to the short pause, winners of six straight games. Their most recent victory came over the Cape Breton Eagles on February 27th, a 6-3 victory on the road. Brett Budgell was the story of the night picking up two goals and two assists in the victory, while Ben Boyd recorded his second goal of the season just seconds in to the game, kicking off a great night of offense for the Isles.

Budgell's big night was flanked once again by his linemates Thomas Casey and Cedric Desruisseaux. The trio is arguably the hottest line in the entire league, turning in nine points among the three of them.

Meanwhile, the Mooseheads are coming off a victory over Cape Breton of their own, a 3-2 victory on February 26th. Markus Vidicek scored the game-winner as the youth movement continues to drive the bus for the Mooseheads. Vidicek currently sits second in the QMJHL in rookie scoring with eight goals and 22 points in 29 games. Not far behind him are teammates Bobby Orr (21 points, third), James Swan, and Jordan Dumais who are tied for sixth with 17 points.

The action can be heard as always on Fair Isle Ford Isles Radio on YouTube. You can also watch the game at any one of our five viewing partners across Charlottetown - The PEI Brewing Company, Dooly's, Outrider's Cookhouse, The Factory Downtown, and Boston Pizza. If you can't make it outside, Eastlink Community TV will be airing the game on Channel 10/610!
