Resilient 67's Rally Falls Short in Niagara
November 24, 2017 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA, ON - For the second straight night, it was a similar story for the Ottawa 67's.
After trailing early in the game, the 67's mounted an impressive third period comeback to make things interesting late in the contest, but weren't able to garner the win.
Stephen Dhillon made 29 saves and the Niagara Ice Dogs took away the 3-2 win.
Much like last night in Erie, the first three goals of the game came from the home team. Niagara jumped out to an early lead when Drew Hunter put the Ice Dogs on the board at 3:07 of the first period.
After Kirill Maksimov drew an assist on that first Niagara goal, and added a marker of his own in the second period to give Niagara a two-goal cushion.
They had a 3-0 advantage on Ottawa going to the third. That was before Mathieu Foget finally gave the 67's some reward for their hard work, breaking the goose egg with the Barber Poles' first of the evening at 13:43 of the third.
Resilience has been the key for the 67's all season long, and they showed it again late in the third. Graeme Clarke buried the 3-2 goal at 17:47 to cut the lead to one goal.
Tons of pressure was applied in the dying minutes of the game, but the 67's couldn't get through Dhillon and the Ice Dogs held on for a slim victory.
