Reno Aces News Release

The Reno Aces moved to 10 games above .500 with a 7-2 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers on Saturday night at Cheney Stadium. Zach Borenstein homered for a second consecutive game, and the Aces' bullpen combination of Matt Capps @MattCapps55), Yuhei Nakaushiro, Evan Marshall (@emarsh31) and Kaleb Fleck (@k_fleck) posted 7 1/3 innings of two-run ball.

Reno (76-66) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning, thanks to a two-out rally. Ildemaro Vargas (@ildemaro_tigre) worked a walk against Zach Lee and Todd Glaesmann (@toddglaesmann22) punched a single to right field, setting up a two-run double that banged off the wall in deep left-center by Chris Herrmann.

The Rainiers (79-62) leveled the score in the home half with a two-out rally of their own. Zach Shank doubled to center before Nori Aoki lined his first home run in a Rainiers' uniform over the right-field wall.

Borenstein's blast opened the fourth, immediately giving the Aces another lead against Lee who dropped to 0-5 in five starts all-time against Reno.

The Aces added a run in the fifth on a two-out RBI single off the bat of Peter O'Brien, ahead of a three-run sixth which knocked Lee out of the game. Consecutive two-out singles by Ronnie Freeman (@Freeforall16) and Kevin Medrano (@Medranamo13) led to a two-run double from Vargas, making it 6-2. Glaesmann then scored Vargas with his second hit of the night to cap the scoring.

Capps (4-0) got the win with 2 2/3 innings in relief of Aces hurler Vicente Campos who left with an apparent right arm injury. Campos retired all five batters he faced in his Aces and Pacific Coast League debut. Lee fell to 0-9 for Tacoma and 7-14 this season after allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.

Vargas and Glaesmann both posted two-hit performances, while Medrano - who entered with three hits in 33 Triple-A at-bats - finished with a team-high three knocks out of the No. 9 hole.

With the win, Reno improved to 11-3 in 2016 and 84-42 all-time against Tacoma, including a 38-24 mark at Cheney Stadium.
