Reno Defeats Tulsa 100-93 in Thursday Battle

Tulsa, Okla., February 5, 2009 - Six players finished with double-digit scoring, but the Reno Bighorns defeated the Tulsa 66ers 100-93 in front of a raucous crowd at the SpiritBank Event Center in South Tulsa. Ryan Humphrey led the 66ers with a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds.

"Our effort tonight was definitely what we've been looking for," 66ers Head Coach Paul Woolpert said. "The guys really played their tails off tonight, even some while playing out of position."

Tulsa started the game with hot shooting all around, going on a 22-8 run capped by a Humphrey jump shot from the baseline. The Bighorns rallied back with a 21-6 run of their own to take a one-point lead after the first quarter. Led by Humphrey's 12 first quarter points, the 66ers shot 11-for-17 (64.7percent) from the field, while the Bighorns shot 11-for-20 (55 percent) in the period.

The second quarter started much the same for Tulsa, as the 66ers went on a 12-3 run capped by a Keith Clark slam dunk to make it 42-34 with 6:16 remaining in the first half. Moses Ehambe swished two three-pointers during the run as he scored 10 of his 13 points in the period. Tulsa led 52-47 at halftime.

Another 11-0 run to start the second half pushed the 66ers to a 63-47 lead with 7:57 remaining in the third quarter after a Humphrey jump shot from the left wing. But Reno pulled back to within three after a 16-3 run of their own was capped by a Dave Noel jumper. The Bighorns rallied to tie the game at 71 apiece after three quarters, shooting 61 percent in the period.

The fourth quarter saw the Bighorns hit 15-of-20 free throws, while Tulsa shot 5-for-5. The 66ers shot 56 percent (22-39) in the first half and 43 percent (33-76) for the game, while the Bighorns managed to shoot 50 percent (34-68) during the game.

Along with Humphrey, Gary Forbes finished with 16 points and nine assists for the 66ers, while Keith Clark, Jeremy Kelly and Derrick Dial each finished with 10 points.

Patrick Ewing, Jr. led the Bighorns with 23 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while Jesse Smith and Dave Noel each had 14 points. Damone Brown added 13 points, Garry Hill-Thomas contributed 11 points and six rebounds and Antonio Meeking put in 10 points for Reno.

Reno (11-16) continues their road trip at Albuquerque on Friday, Feb. 6 and at Anaheim on Sunday, Feb. 8 before returning home.

Tulsa (6-20) continues their home stand on Saturday, Feb. 7 against the Idaho Stampede and on Sunday, Feb. 8 against the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
