Today's Game: The Aces (60-55) enter Thursday night's contest six games back of the first-place Fresno Grizzlies. Greg Gross will send right-hander Matt Koch to the mound to face the Las Vegas 51's in the first game of a four-game set. With 25 games left to play in the 2018 campaign, the Aces need some help from the Fresno Grizzlies to find their way into their playoffs.

Last Game: Ildemaro Vargas stole the spotlight from rehabbing Hyun-Jin Ryu Tuesday night. The 27-year-old Venezuela native broke Jake Elmore's 31 consecutive game hitting streak to set a new franchise record. Vargas finished the night 1-for-5, but the Aces defeated the Oklahoma City Dodgers by a score of 8-2. Jamie Westbrook recorded his second Triple-A two-home run game and Reno totaled 12 hits. Westbrook went 2-for-4 with two home runs and two RBI. Starting pitcher Taylor Clarke went 7.0 strong innings and only allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out five Oklahoma City batters. Hyun-Jin Ryu made a rehab appearance for Oklahoma City tonight. Ryu, a Dodgers southpaw, went five innings, allowed five hits and allowed one run.

Streaking: Ildemaro Vargas has hit in 32 consecutive games, the longest hit streak in franchise history. During the streak, he is batting .375, (54-for-143), with 23 runs scored, 11 doubles, 14 RBI and an OBP of .426. There have only been five players in Aces history with streaks of 20+ games. Jake Elmore (31, 2012), Ildemaro Vargas (31, 2018), Tony Abreu (24, 2011), Chris Owings (23, 2013), and Ketel Marte (22, 2017). In 2017, Ketel Marte went 37-for-98, .378, with nine 2B, three 3B, one HR and 16 RBI from April 29 through May 22.

Once Friends, Now Foes: The Aces will likely see former Reno players Zach Borenstein and Jack Reinheimer. Reinheimer played in 311 games in an Aces uniform, third-most all-time. Borenstein appeared in 280 games for the Biggest Little City, one slot behind Reinheimer for fourth-most all-time. Following the away series in Las Vegas, Reno will host division rival Sacramento. Cesar Puello will be in the outfield for the River Cats after signing a Minor League Free Agent contract on August 3rd, 2018. Puello was released by the Arizona Diamondbacks on August first following 73 games where he hit .317 with six home runs and 33 RBI.

1946: On this date in 1946, In MLB's version of Friday Night Lights, all eight games, scheduled in eight different cities, were played under the lights. It will be the first time in the major league history that every team will participate in an evening tilt on the same night.

Westbrook's Bombs: Jamie Westbrook introduced himself to the Aces faithful in a big way last week. The 23-year-old outfielder appeared in six games, hit four home runs and recorded 22 total bases. On August 3 and August 7, Westbrook hit two home runs.
