Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY (Aug. 9, 2018) - Matt Thaiss and Jared Walsh each had multiple hits in the Salt Lake Bees series-opening 8-7 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers Thursday night at Smith's Ballpark.

Walsh also finished the game with four RBIs, including hitting the front end of back-to-back home runs with Jabari Blash in seventh inning, as the Bees began their penultimate homestand with a win. The game was the first home game of the season for new manager Eric Chavez, who replaced Keith Johnson after Johnson was called up to work with the Los Angeles Angels.

Dylan Unsworth got the start on the mound for Salt Lake and lasted four innings giving up just two runs and striking out two batters. Tyler Stevens, who relieved Unsworth, got the credit for the win after going for two and one-thirds innings, allowing just one run and striking out two as well. Ty Buttrey made his Bees debut with a spotless eighth inning, while Eduardo Paredes collected his fifth save of the season.

The two teams will meet again Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark. It will be night to remember at the ballpark as the Bees celebrate the 25th anniversary of the classic film, The Sandlot. Members of the cast and crew from the movie will be on-hand to meet fans, answer questions and participate in the celebration of the movie, which was filmed in Utah. A special 'Ham' Porter bobble head will be available for the first 2,000 fans. Tickets are available at slbees.com.
