Renegades Training Camp Begins Sunday

LUBBOCK, TX: March 16, 2007 - The inaugural Lubbock Renegades of the arenafootball2 league begin training camp for the 2007 season this Sunday with at least five players with ties to Texas Tech University adding local flavor to the arena football squad.

The Renegades will have training camp workouts held at Lubbock High School's indoor multi-purpose athletic facility and on their outdoor practice field beginning Sunday from 10am - 1pm. Training camp workouts will continue during the same times Monday through Friday, with contact workouts beginning Wednesday. After the week of workouts, Renegades Head Coach Rodney Blackshear must trim his roster to 30 players. Workout sessions for the weekend of March 24 and 25th are "to be determined." The second week of training camp practices begins Monday, March 26th and runs through Friday, March 30th with workouts going from 10am - 1pm. Rosters must be trimmed down to no more than 22 players on March 26th, consisting of no more than 19 active and three practice squad members. All workouts are subject to change and are open to the public.

Training camp will provide the first glimpse of the inaugural Renegades squad and there will be several athletes with local and regional ties, including five members that attended Texas Tech University. Joining Preston Hartfield and Joey Hawkins, who were announced earlier, is defensive back / wide receiver Armon Dorrough, linebacker / fullback Jeff Lofton and kicker Keith Toogood.

Dorrough, a 6'0" 178-pound native of Lancaster, Texas, spent two seasons playing for the Red Raiders. He appeared in four games in 2001 and tallied three receptions for 25 yards. In 2002, he played in 9 games and had 104 receiving yards on 9 catches on the season, including a receiving touchdown against Baylor. Durrough went on to transfer to Texas A&M - Commerce, where he played two games in 2005 and primarily focused on running track. He was a highly touted recruit out of Lancaster High School after solid performances in prospect camps and a senior season where he caught 37 passes for 567 yards. Rivals100.com rated him as the 15th best wide receiver in the nation.

Lofton, 28, is a Texas Tech grad that was a walk-on at Tech during the 1999 and 2000 spring workouts. An All-South Plains Linebacker and All-District Defensive MVP honoree from Idalou, Texas, Lofton attended the 2002 NFL Scout Camp Regional Combine and was invited to Indianapolis in 2005 for the NFL Elite Combine. Off the field, Lofton has been a history teacher at O.L. Slaton Junior High and a freshman football coach for Monterey High School. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Toogood, a product of Dallas Christian in Mesquite, Texas, also completed his college tenure at Texas Tech. He began his Texas Tech career as a kicker set the school's single season marks for freshman points (90), conversion attempts (70) and PAT's with 66. The Rowlett, Texas native completed the honors during the 2003 season. He only attempted one field goal attempt following the 2003 season as he assumed the kickoff duties from 2004-2006. At Dallas Christian, Toogood was a quarterback and kicker and earned All-State honors and was tabbed by Rivals100.com as the 14th best kicker in the nation in 2001.

A full roster of players attending training camp will be made available once camp begins, as players will report Saturday. Media members are encouraged to attend training camp. Interviews may be conducted at the conclusion of workouts and videotographers / photographers are asked to be cautious when attending workouts for the safety of the players and themselves.
