Texas Copperheads News Release
HOUSTON- The Texas Copperheads begin training camp this Friday at Berry Stadium in Houston in preparation for the 2007 arenafootball2 season.
The Northwest Houston St. Patrick's Day Parade committee recently handed Cypress Creek Emergency Medical Services a check for about $20,000 raised at last year's annual 1960 St. Patrick's Day parade. This year, committee officials say, they want to hand the ambulance agency a larger check benefiting its public education program.
Rod Hudson, Northwest Houston St. Patrick's Day Parade committee chairman, said the way to do that is by attracting more floats, and more sponsors to the 2007 St. Patrick's Day Parade. The Texas Copperheads wanted to do their part by throwing out t-shirts and fan items on Sunday.
The parade kicks off at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 18. The 3.5-mile parade route starts at the Wells Fargo parking lot at the Champion Forest Drive/FM 1960 intersection and runs to The Boat Seafood Restaurant parking lot near the corner of Kuykendahl Road and FM 1960.
Last year about 75,000 people lined up to see more than 120 floats travel down FM 1960, which is the primary roadway through the Spring/Klein community.
"Our biggest problem is getting people to realize this is not just a small community parade," Hudson said. "It is the largest St. Patrick's Day parade in Houston. It has grown into a monster."
"People come from all over Houston to see our parade," Hudson said. "It is amazing."
England said proceeds from the parade and any related fund-raisers boost Cypress Creek EMS's public education efforts, which are not funded through tax dollars from Harris County Emergency Service District 11.
General Manager Gary Saunders added, "Any time the Copperheads can assist the community we plan to be there, we are Houston's Only Arena Team."
