Renegades Rally Late for 5-2 Win over BKLYN on Thursday

Wappingers Falls, NY - A critical error in the bottom of the 8th opened the flood gates and turned a 2-1 Cyclones lead into a 5-2 Hudson Valley win. The Renegades scored four runs, three of which were unearned, in the bottom of the 8th against Brooklyn reliever Sammy Tavarez (2-1) largely thanks to three wild pitches and the error by Stanley Consuegra.

Carson Seymour made the start for Brooklyn and tossed 6.0 solid frames, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out nine and walking three. The righthander has now struck out 30 batters over his last three starts spanning 18.2 innings.

Hudson Valley opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when Grant Richardson had an RBI single that left runners on second and third with nobody out, but Seymour struck out the next three batters he faced to end the inning with Hudson Valley on top by just a skinny run.

In the top of the fourth Alex Ramirez got Brooklyn back even with an opposite field, solo home run - his third home run in his last six games - to tie things up at 1-1.

Two innings later it was Ramirez who tacked on an RBI single, plating Stanley Consuegra, to give Brooklyn a 2-1 edge.

That how it stayed until the bottom of the eighth when Hudson Valley turned the game on its head. Sammy Tavarez walked the leadoff batter to start the threat but got Spencer Henson to pop out on the infield for out number one. Eric Wagaman then hit a liner to right field that Stanley Consuegra whiffed on for a two-base error that put runners on second and third with just one out. After Tavarez plunked Grant Richardson on a 1-2 pitch to load the bases, James Nelson roped one into left field that just eluded a leaping Jose Peroza at shortstop to tie things up at 2-2. Pat DeMarco followed with a sac fly to deep center field that advanced all of the base runners and put Hudson Valley on top 3-2. Tavarez then uncorked a wild pitch to push home another run before Eduardo Torrealba capped the inning with an RBI single to make it 5-2.

That's how the game would end as Brooklyn went in order in the top of the ninth to close out the come from behind effort for Hudson Valley.

The teams will square off on Friday night for Game Four of six. RHP Dominic Hamel will make the start for Brooklyn.
