Renegades Fall to Open Series at Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, Md. - The Hudson Valley Renegades dropped a tough contest in the series opener to the Aberdeen IronBirds 4-2 on Tuesday night at Leidos Field.

Hudson Valley struck in the top of the first against Aberdeen starter Connor Gillispie. Cooper Bowman walked and advanced to third on a Trey Sweeney single before coming home to score on an Everson Pereira sacrifice fly.

In the top of the second, the Gades mounted a two-out rally which culminated with Anthony Seigler walking with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 2-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Collin Burns knocked an RBI single and Donta' Williams brought home Colton Cowser with a ground out to first to level the score at two against Renegades starter Blane Abeyta. In the fifth, Cowser laced a two-run double to give Aberdeen a 4-2 lead.

Abeyta (0-5) lasted 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits, walking five and striking out none. It was the first time this season, and the third time in his career that the right-hander pitched into the sixth inning.

Alex Mauricio and Nelson Alvarez combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless, no-hit relief to close out the game for Hudson Valley

Alex Pham (2-0) tossed three shutout innings of relief for the IronBirds, allowing only one hit, striking out five and walking none. Gregori Vasquez earned his first save, firing two innings of one-hit ball, striking out one.

Hudson Valley continues its six-game series with Aberdeen tomorrow night. RHP Matt Sauer (2-1, 4.06) takes the ball for the Renegades, while the IronBirds send RHP Carlos Tavera (1-1, 2.76) to the bump. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45.
