Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wappingers Falls, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades dropped a tough contest to the Brooklyn Cyclones 5-1 on Friday night at Dutchess Stadium.
Josue Panacual was strong through four innings, matching zeroes with Brooklyn's Dominic Hamel. However, in the top of the fifth, he allowed a leadoff home run to Shervyen Newton, kicking off a three-run inning for the Cyclones.
Panacual (2-3) allowed three runs on five hits in 4.1 innings, walking three and striking out four.
Hamel (2-0) kept the Renegades bats silent across 6.0 shutout innings, scattering four hits and two walks while striking out six.
The Renegades got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when Grant Richardson launched a tape measure home run to center off Oscar Rojas. Richardson's second home run with Hudson Valley landed in the trees beyond the wall, traveling an estimated 460 feet.
Trailing 3-1, Hudson Valley brought the tying runs to the plate in the seventh, but Trey Sweeney popped out to second base to end the threat. In the bottom of the eighth, Anthony Seigler led off with a single, but was caught stealing third as Nathan Lavender escaped a jam.
Seigler finished 2-for-4 with a double, while T.J. Rumfield was 1-for-4 and made a spectacular play in the first inning to catch a foul ball while tumbling into the Renegades dugout.
Brooklyn tacked on two runs against Charlie Ruegger in the top of the ninth to extend their lead to 5-1. Lavender set the Gades down 1-2-3 in the ninth to close out the win and his second save of the season.
The Renegades continue their series with the Cyclones on Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium. RHP Matt Sauer (5-1, 3.87) takes the ball for Hudson Valley, while LHP Nick Zwack (5-1, 1.52) starts for Brooklyn. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., with pregame coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network starting at 5:45. For tickets and more information, slide to www.hvrenegades.com.
