Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Less than 24 hours after an electric walk-off, 6-5 win for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, the team carried that momentum into Thursday's double-header with style, taking down the Jersey Shore BlueClaws by a final score of 3-0 to take a 2-1 series lead.
Game one of the scheduled double-header was a dominant victory for the Blue Rocks behind a strong start from left-hander Mitchell Parker. The southpaw pitched six innings, only allowing three hits and zero runs, while striking out seven. Parker also earned the win, advancing his record to a very respectable 5-1.
Wilmington kicked off game one exactly how Wednesday's game ended. The Blue Rocks got on the board early when catcher Drew Millas roped a double to deep right, scoring Jeremy De La Rosa. Kevin Strohschein kept the hitting train rolling on the very next pitch, poking a single into right field to score Millas. This gave the Blue Rocks an early 2-0 lead.
Wilmington would add some insurance in the bottom of the third, when Jose Sanchez blasted a high fly ball all the way to the warning track, resulting in a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 ballgame. That would wind up being the final score, as fantastic pitching from the Blue Rocks held the BlueClaws to just three hits and no runs.
Game two would not start off the same way for Wilmington. The BlueClaws would jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second, thanks to RBI singles by Herbert Iser and Uziel Viloria.
What followed Jersey Shore's big top of the second was elite pitching by both sides, up until the top of the fifth inning, where lightning would strike down on Frawley Stadium and cause the remainder of the game to be suspended.
Although the doubleheader was not fully completed, the remainder of game two will be made up on Friday, July 29, at 5:35 PM. Immediately following will be July 29th's scheduled game between the division rivals. Jersey Shore will hold a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning when the two teams resume play on Friday evening.
