Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Staten Island, NY (7/24/14)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Staten Island Yankees 3-0 on Wednesday night, dropping to 28-11 this season. In a game that was moving rather quickly into the bottom of the sixth inning, the action came to a pause with thunder and lightning appearing over Richmond County Bank Ballpark. At that point the Renegades trailed the Yankees 3-0, and the score would not change the rest of the contest. Hudson Valley had their five game winning streak against the Yankees snapped in their final meeting of the season.
Staten Island struck first with two runs in the second and one run in the third, as their pitching supplied the rest with nine innings of scoreless baseball. They improve to 21-18 overall, and seven games back of the Renegades in first place of the McNamara Division.
Edgar Gomez got the start on the hill for Hudson Valley, tossing three innings of three-run baseball with one strikeout. Ely Echarry and Trevor Dunlap would go the rest of the way, combining for five innings with no runs and two strikeouts.
Offensively, the Renegades had three hits on the evening. Grant Kay, Casey Gillaspie and Bralin Jackson all singled in the contest and are responsible for their team's base hits. Hunter Lockwood did not have a hit but walked two times and brought his OBP up to .346.
Through 39 games the Renegades have the best record in the New York-Penn League. They have the best overall team pitching and more stolen bases than any of their opponents.
Notes: While Hunter Lockwood went hitless against Staten Island, his 10 home runs and 29 RBI's are still good for second best in the New York-Penn League. Hudson Valley has pitched more innings than any other team, and their 2.91 ERA is the lowest of all fourteen teams.
The Renegades open a three game series with the Vermont Lake Monsters on Sunday evening at Dutchess Stadium. First pitch is set for 5:05 PM. Tuesday is "Let's Get Physical".
