Wappingers Falls, NY (7/29/14)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters 5-3 on Tuesday evening, improving to 32-13 this season. The win completes a three game sweep of their Stedler Division opponent, and gives Hudson Valley a 5-1 record against them this season. The Renegades are back on top with the best overall record in the New York-Penn League, and lead the McNamara Division by nine games over the Brooklyn Cyclones.

In a contest that remained a pitcher's duel through the first five innings, Vermont struck first with one run in the top of the sixth. Hudson Valley answered back with one of their own in the bottom half, and then four more in the seventh. Coty Blanchard came up with the game's biggest hit, roping a bases clearing double down the left field line to score three runs. The Renegades would not score another run the rest of the way, but they wouldn't need to as they weathered a two-run top of the ninth from Vermont.

Oscar Armenta got the start on the hill for Hudson Valley, picking up a no decision on the outing. The lefty pitched very well in his seventh start of the season, going six innings of one-run baseball. He struck out five in the outing, and still holds an impressive 3-1 record in 2014.

Kyle McKenzie replaced Armenta in the top of the seventh inning, and impressed in his Dutchess Stadium debut. He earned the win with two innings of shutout baseball and improved to 1-0 in the New York-Penn League. Ryan Pennell came on to finish the contest in the top of the ninth, and recorded the final out of the series with a foul-out behind home plate.

At the plate, it was Coty Blanchard with the big hit and Grant Kay with another terrific offensive outing. Blanchard drove in four of the Renegades five runs, while Kay went 3-3 with a double. In four games at Dutchess Stadium he is hitting an astonishing .765 with five doubles, two triples and a homer. He's also driven in nine of his eleven RBI's at home.

Notes: The Renegades now boast a home record of 19-3, the best in the New York-Penn League. They are the first team to reach 32 wins, and are now on a three-game winning streak. Their nine game streak is still the longest of all fourteen teams in the league.
