Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wilmington, Del. - Beck Way, Alex Mauricio and Nelvin Correa combined to throw the fourth one-hitter of the season for the Hudson Valley Renegades in a 3-0 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Saturday night at Frawley Stadium.
The lone hit for the Blue Rocks came on an infield single with one out in the bottom of the eighth, which glanced off of Mauricio's glove before skittering into no-man's land behind the mound.
Way (5-5) was stellar, opening the game with 6.0 no-hit innings in which he walked three and struck out two. He was a groundball machine, generating 11 outs on the ground without allowing a single ball to be hit out of the infield.
The Renegades took the lead in the top of the third when Pat DeMarco singled and scored on an Eduardo Torrealba double. DeMarco had a strong game, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
Hudson Valley tacked on another run against Rodney Theophile (1-3) in the fifth, when with runners at first and third, Jasson Dominguez and Trey Sweeney executed a double steal of second and home. Dominguez stole second while Sweeney broke for the plate, extending the lead to 2-0.
Grant Richardson brought in the third run in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to center, plating Cooper Bowman.
With Hudson Valley throwing a combined no-hitter through 7.1 innings, Kevin Strohschein collected the only Wilmington hit of the night off Mauricio. He bounced a ball up the middle, that skipped off of Mauricio's glove as he tried to make a play. The righty raced after the ball and threw to first, but too late to nab Strohschein.
A walk to Leandro Emiliani brought the tying run to the plate with one out, but Mauricio danced through the trouble. Correa worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to lock down his third save of the season.
The victory was the seventh shutout win of the year for the Renegades, and their fourth one-hitter, with three being full nine-inning contests.
The Renegades complete their trip to Wilmington on Sunday afternoon at Frawley Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m., with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 12:45. RHP Matt Sauer (5-1, 3.29) gets the call in the rubber game for Hudson Valley, while Wilmington answers with RHP Michael Cuevas (4-9, 4.24).
