Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Lakewood, NJ - It was a wild one down the shore on Saturday night, as the Cyclones came out victorious over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws by the score of 7-5. Down to their final out of the game, Alex Ramirez connected on a grand-slam to turn a two-run deficit into a two-run lead. The 19-year-old phenom has now driven in 10 runs over his last two games against the BlueClaws.

Trailing 7-5 with two outs in the top of the 9th, Alex Ramirez turned the two-run deficit into a two-run lead with a grand-slam well over the left field wall. He now has back-to-back five RBI games.

Dominic Hamel made the start for Brooklyn and tossed 4.0 frames, allowing two runs on five hits while walking a pair and striking out five. His two runs allowed came in the bottom of the second but the righthander settled down from that point forward.

With the 'Clones trailing 2-0 in the top of the third, Jose Mena got Brooklyn on the board with a solo shot - his fifth home run of the season - to trim the Jersey Shore lead to 2-1.

In the top of the fifth Brooklyn took advantage of a 'Claws miscue to take the lead. Mena and Jaylen Palmer had back-to-back singles to start the frame and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch by Andrew Painter. With two outs, Consuegra hit a ground ball to third that seemed to be destined for out number three, but Freylin Minyety's throw to first went wide and allowed Mena to score the tying run. Rowdey Jordan and Alex Ramirez followed with a pair of RBI singles to give Brooklyn a 4-2 advantage.

The lead was short-lived however as in the bottom of the sixth Jersey Shore answered in a big way. Oscar Rojas came on in relief for Brooklyn, making his first appearance since June 17th, and immediately found himself in trouble. On just the second pitch he threw, Carlos De La Cruz connected on solo shot to make it 4-3. Rixon Wingrove would later work a one-out walk before Herbert Iser hit a double into the right-center field gap to put runners on second and third with only one away. DJ Stewart followed with a double that just eluded Stanley Consuegra to knot the score at 4-4 and keep runners at 2nd and 3rd. Rojas got a pop up on the infield for out number two to put an end to his night, but on the first pitch from the next man up, Nathan Lavender, Jared Carr ripped a double to right field to score a pair an give Jersey Shore a 6-4 lead after six.

Brooklyn trimmed the deficit to a skinny run in the top of the seventh after Stanley Consuegra had a two-out triple and Rowdey Jordan pushed him home with an RBI single that made it 6-5.

The BlueClaws pushed their lead back to a pair in the bottom of the frame when Carlos De La Cruz hit his second home run of the night to make it 7-5.

That brings us to the ninth, when Brooklyn snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat. Shervyen Newton got things started with a one-out double and Matt Rudick was hit by a pitch to put the tying runs aboard. After Consuegra popped out on the infield for out number two, Rowdey Jordan worked a walk to load the bases for Alex Ramirez. The 19-year-old phenom connected on a 1-0 offering and sent it onto the left-field berm to give Brooklyn a 9-7 lead.

But Jersey Shore didn't go quietly against Dylan Hall in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs and a runner on, De La Cruz and Casey Martin had back-to-backs singles to load the bases but Hall was able to strike out Rixon Wingrove for the final out of the game and close out Brooklyn's improbable win.

The teams will square off again on Sunday in the finale of the three-game series. LHP Nick Zwack (3-1) will make the start for Brooklyn as they look to complete the sweep.
