Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN - Massimo Carozza buried the game-winning goal 2:26 into overtime to give the Quebec Remparts a 4-3 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs Thursday at Harbour Station.
Yanick Turcotte, Nikolas Brouillard and Dmytro Timashov also scored for Quebec (16-11-2-0), which have won two straight games
Joe Veleno, Mathieu Joseph and Adam Marsh replied for Saint John (15-10-2-0), which came back from a 3-1 deficit to earn a single point.
A complete scoring summary is available HERE.
The Remparts opened the scoring six minutes into the first period after a Sea Dog turnover in the neutral zone sent Yanick Turcotte on a partial breakaway.
The 19-year-old Quebec-native snapped a shot from the slot that beat Saint John goalie Marc-Antoine Turcotte on his glove side.
The Sea Dogs tied the game on a power play two-and-a-half minutes later when Veleno deflected a Jakub Zboril point shot past Remparts' goalie Brady Labrecque.
But Saint John got into penalty trouble before the end of the period, taking minor infractions three seconds apart.
On the ensuing 5-on-3, Brouillard took the puck into the slot and ripped a wrister past the blocker of a screened Turcotte to restore the visitors' one-goal advantage.
The contest stayed 2-1 until fewer than nine minutes remained in the third period.
Timashov created a 2-on-1 from his own blueline and opted to keep the puck himself. The Toronto draft pick, who signed his first NHL contract with the Maple Leafs earlier this week, strolled in on the left wing and sent a hard wrister past Turcotte's blocker.
The Sea Dogs responded two minutes later when Joseph took a drop pass in the slot and rifled a wrist into the top corner, glove-side, on Labrecque.
Saint John pulled Turcotte for an extra skater with just under two minutes to go, and pulled even on the scoreboard with 42.4 seconds left.
Following lengthy pressure in the Quebec zone, Thomas Chabot fed Zboril for a one-timer from the right point. Marsh, parked in front of the net, redirected the shot past Labrecque's glove to tie the game at 3-3.
Early in 3-on-3 overtime, Remparts' rookie forward Auguste Impose was sent on a breakaway from his own zone, but could not beat Turcotte's right pad.
Carozza's winner started with the centre playing the puck off the right sideboards to himself to create a clear chance. He snuck a low shot through Turcotte's legs just before the halfway mark in extra time.
Labrecque made 31 saves for the win in goal and was recognized as the game's second star. Turcotte took the loss with 27 stops.
Brouillard grabbed first star with his goal. Zboril was named third star in front of 2,683 fans in attendance.
Saint John's next game is Friday, November 27th, at 7:30 p.m. against the Sherbrooke Phoenix at Harbour Station. It's Star Wars Night, featuring a special ceremonial puck-drop with Darth Vader. It's also a PALS cereal drive. Fans are encouraged to bring a new box of nutritious, nut-free cereal or breakfast bars for donation inside the main doors of the concourse. Donations will be distributed to community schools in the Saint John Education Centre.
Tickets are available at the Harbour Station Box Office, online at harbourstation.ca or by calling 657-1234. Listen LIVE on 96.1 NewSong FM or newsongfm.ca. Watch LIVE on theqmjhl.ca.
