TACOMA, Wash. - Reign FC announced today that it has signed forward Bethany Balcer for the 2019 NWSL season. As per team and league rules, terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Balcer will occupy a spot on Reign FC's supplemental roster. Balcer, who spent the preseason with Reign FC as a non-roster invitee, will be available for selection in Sunday's match against the Houston Dash.
"We're pleased to sign Bethany to a contract," Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski said. "She had a good preseason and done everything that we've asked her to do. I think she'll be able to contribute to our team this season."
Balcer, who hails from Hudsonville, Michigan, scored 129 goals in 98 career appearances for Spring Arbor University. She was the first player to win three NAIA Women's Soccer National Player of the Year awards and was a four-time NAIA All-American first-teamer.
"I'm so excited to officially join Reign FC," Balcer said. "Playing professional soccer has always been a dream of mine and I can't thank Vlatko and the entire coaching staff enough for giving me this opportunity and believing in me. I'm excited to continue growing relationships with the amazing women on the team and to continue to develop as a soccer player on the most elite team in the league."
In preseason with Reign FC, Balcer scored a brace in a 5-0 win over the University of Washington April 5, as well as a pass that set up a Morgan Andrews goal in a 2-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars in the Thorns Spring Invitational.
Reign FC begins its season on Sunday, April 14 at 3:00 p.m. PT on the road against the Houston Dash.
