March 27, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (40-17-3-4), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, earned a point in a 3-2, eight-round shootout loss to the Las Vegas Wranglers (18-38-4-3) before a home crowd of 8,834 on Wednesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
The Reign's single point was enough to secure their fourth all-time Pacific Division title, and third consecutive.
Everett Sheen snapped a laser clean past the glove of Travis Fullerton from the top of the left circle at 8:12 to put the Reign ahead 1-0. Maxim Kitsyn extended his point streak to an impressive nine games with the lone assist as he sent a perfect feed across to Sheen.
Chad Nehring continued to pester the Reign with a quick goal just 13 seconds into the second period. J.P. Anderson came out of the crease to poke the puck but it deflected straight to Nehring who had an open net to shoot on. At the 12:49 mark of the second, Shawn Skelly received a pass from Robert Smith in the slot and beat a Reign defenseman and the blocker of Anderson to put Las Vegas ahead 2-1.
In the final period, Matt White lit the lamp after a Wranglers turnover went right to Kyle Bigos at the blue line. Bigos move the puck to Rocco Carzo who found White out front ready to push it between the pads of Fullerton.
Kitsyn's beautiful deke and snapshot was the Reign's only goal in the shootout, but in the eighth round Jeff May lit the lamp to win it for Las Vegas after Carlo Finucci's first-round tally.
Anderson took the loss stopping 35 total shots; Fullerton got the win with 17 saves.
Three Stars:
1. LV - Jeff May
2. ONT - J.P. Anderson
3. LV - Chad Nehring
