Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Orlando, FL - F Mickey Lang scored three times in the second period to notch his third hat trick as a Solar Bear as Orlando took a 5-3 victory over the Evansville IceMen at the Amway Center on Thursday night.
The Solar Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals scored 30 seconds apart midway through the first period. F Taylor Matson struck at 11:07 after two quick passes from F Wade MacLeod and F Kory Nagy set Matson up for a tap-in goal on the right side of the net. D Eric Baier then tallied his ninth goal of the year when he took a cross-ice feed from F Jacob Cepis and fired a wrist shot into the top right corner of the net at 11:37. Evansville answered with less than one second to play in the period when F Daultan Leveille collected a bouncing puck and placed a shot just under the crossbar to cut the Solar Bears lead to 2-1 heading towards the middle frame.
Forward Mickey Lang took over in the second stanza. 1:26 into the period, F Mike Ullrich slashed the puck off the right wall into the slot and Lang raced to the loose puck and tapped it past G Garrett Bartus to restore the two goal advantage. Lang tallied his second goal of the period on the power play, taking a pass out of the right corner from Ullrich and slamming the puck inside the right goal post at 13:00. He finished off the hat trick with 2:28 left in the period when he blasted a slap shot into the top left corner with the Solar Bears on a 5-on-3 advantage as Orlando took a 5-1 lead into the third.
Just 23 seconds into the final frame, Evansville cut the lead to 5-2 when F Tristan King finished off a pass from F Nathan Moon for the power play goal. The IceMen then scored again with 9:54 left in contest as Leveille fired a one-timer from the slot and into the back of the net to bring the score to 5-3. It was the final scored in the period, as G Cody Reichard stopped 17 shots in the third period to preserve the 5-3 victory for the Solar Bears.

It was his third hat trick and was the fifth hat trick registered by a Solar Bear this season (Aneloski, Cepis). Lang leads the ECHL with 43 goals and 16 power play tallies. He also tied a Solar Bears season high with four points in the game... Forward C.J. Severyn returned to the lineup tonight after serving a 10-game ECHL suspension... The Solar Bears improved to 7-0-1 on Thursday night home games... Tonight's contest was just the third time this season that the Solar Bears have finished with the same number of shots as their opponent, but the second time in the last three games. They are 3-0-0 in that scenario... F Jacob Cepis finished the night with three assists for his fifth three point game.
