BROOMFIELD, CO - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs outshot the Rocky Mountain Rage 52-19 on Monday night at the Broomfield Events Center, but Rage goaltender Scott Reid made 49 saves to lead his team to a 4-3 victory in Game 1 of the Northern Conference Opening Round playoff series.

The 'Bugs came back from two goals down to get within one three different times, but never could get the game tied and will head back to Bossier City trailing 1-0 in the best-of-three playoff series. Kevin Cooper scored twice and both Travis Clayton (1g, 2a) and Joe Blaznek (3a) had three-point nights to lead the Mudbugs offensively.

The Mudbugs dominated most of the play in the first period, but found themselves down 2-0 after one on a pair of powerplay goals. Ryan McLeod's shot from the top of the circle was deflected in front before it went off the post and in to give Rocky Mountain at 1-0 advantage at 6:40. Then Nathan Gillies knocked home a bouncing rebound after Ken Carroll had made the initial save on Pat Sutton from the right circle at 12:19. The 'Bugs finally solved Reid at 6:51 of the second period with a powerplay goal when Kevin Cooper knocked a rebound out of mid-air to get Bossier-Shreveport within a goal. Just 28 seconds later though, Colt King answered for Rocky Mountain, putting home a backhand shot in Carroll's five-hole to make it a 3-1 game. The Mudbugs immediately got back within one though when Travis Clayton tipped in the rebound of a Joe Blaznek shot only 20 seconds after King's goal to again cut the lead to one. The Mudbugs held a 34-12 shot advantage through 40 minutes.

With Bossier-Shreveport pushing to tie the game in the third, the Rage made it 4-2 when David Morelli set up Scott Wray on a 2-on-1 at 9:13. Cooper again gave the Mudbugs hope when he cut wide down the right boards and put a shot just inside the far post to make it 4-3 with 3:26 remaining. The 'Bugs pulled Jon Horrell and had a brief 6 on 4 advantage before time expired, but couldn't tie the game in the final minute.

Ken Carroll stopped 7 of 10 shots before being relieved by Jon Horrell after Rocky Mountain's third goal. Horrell was tagged with the loss after stopping 8 of 9. Scott Reid made 20 saves in the first period, 12 in the second and another 17 in the third to earn the win. The 'Bugs went 1 for 8 on the powerplay, while the Rage were 2 for 5.
