Reich Rebounds, Saints Earn 1-0 Win & Take Series Lead

DUBUQUE, IA- Only a game after being pulled, Kevin Reich bounced back with his best effort yet. The Dubuque goaltender kicked aside 27 shots to shut out the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 1-0, and give the Dubuque Fighting Saints a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-five Eastern Conference Semifinal series. Robby Darrar had the lone goal on the evening, and Dubuque improved to 16-1 all-time in playoff games at the Mystique Community Ice Center.

Dubuque opened the game feeding off the crowd of 2,848 and outshot Cedar Rapids 16-7 in the opening period. The Fighting Saints best chance came from Shane Eiserman late in the opening period. The Dubuque forward beat the defense up ice and streaked in on a breakaway. He attempted to go five-hole on the netminder, but Tirone got a blocker on the shot. The Cedar Rapids goaltender was solid all game, stopping 31 shots in the loss.

The Fighting Saints finally broke the scoreless tie midway through period two. Jarrid Privitera fired an up-ice pass to Brett Boeing. The Fighting Saints winger fired a shot from the boards that Tirone stopped with his pad. The rebound sat loose in the crease and Darrar beat the Cedar Rapids' defense to it. He took a shot thank bounced off the post and in for his second goal of the postseason at 11:11.

The third period saw Cedar Rapids press, but Reich was strong in goal. The netminder made a big stop on forward Andrew Poturalski from the slot, and made a save on Brennan Sanford late in the game after Dubuque defender Josh Elmes had lost his edge and allowed Sanford to streak in on goal. The shutout was Reich's first in the USHL.

The Fighting Saints outshot the RoughRiders 33-27 in the win. Cedar Rapids was 0-for-3 on the powerplay while Dubuque was 0-for-2.

Dubuque can win the series tomorrow evening at home. The winner of the Dubuque/Cedar Rapids series will play the Indiana Ice in the Eastern Conference Finals next week. The Ice defeated Green Bay, 1-0, on Friday to win it's Conference Semifinal series, 3-1.
