Regina Pats News Release
The Pats and Blades met for the first time this pre-season Friday night. The Pats came out on the wrong side of a 2-1 decision against their highway 11 rivals. Though he won't play tonight, Tegan Sacher was a star for Regina as he stopped all 16 shots he faced in the first half of last night's contest. Trailing 1-0 heading into the third, the Pats evened up the game in the opening moments of the final frame, but Brett Stovin cashed in on a three-on-one to give the Blades a 2-1 lead and the win. Catch tonight's game on CKRM starting with the pre-game show at 6:35.
Around the League:
There was only one other game in the East Division last night. Moose Jaw took it to Brandon by a count of 7-1. On tonight's schedule, the Wheat Kings look for some redemption against the Warriors. Meanwhile the Broncos and Raiders go head to head in exhibition action.
Only God Saves More than Tegan?
Matt Hewitt gets the start tonight, but Tegan Sacher is the name around Regina today. The rookie netminder holds a 0.66 goals against average and a 0.980 save percentage. The lowest and second highest numbers in the WHL respectively. Sacher is doing his best to make the goaltending situation a complicated issue.
Scoring Touch
Chandler Stephenson and Morgan Klimchuk got into their first game action last night and hooked up for the Pats lone goal. The Capitals third rounder and possible first round selection look to carry the brunt of the Pats' offence this season.
Powerplay Goal Anyone?
The front half of this home and home featured ten powerplays (six for Saskatoon, four for Regina), but no powerplay goals. Looks like both teams penalty kills could hit the season on the upswing.
