Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, Ky. - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) will have a new lead voice for the 2015 season. Andrew Kappes departs the club to join the broadcast team with the Indianapolis Indians (Triple-A/Pittsburgh Pirates). Daniel "Danny" Reed was named the club's fourth voice on Thursday following an off-season calling college sports in the Carolinas.
"We're excited for Andrew's opportunity, but we're equally thrilled to have Danny as our new broadcaster," said Hot Rods Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Adam Nuse. "Reed is very experienced in the affiliated ranks, and he'll do a great job keeping our fans entertained and informed all season. Whether the team is home or away on the road, folks will be able to track the club's progress on what could be a historically successful season."
Reed is a veteran of not only the broadcast industry, but of affiliated baseball. He spent four seasons with the Charleston RiverDogs (Class-A/New York Yankees) following his graduation from Waynesburg (Pa.) University. He's also served as a lead voice for The Citadel, and he spends his off-seasons freelancing for various networks. Reed will be responsible for all 140 regular season broadcasts and any playoff action on 1340 WBGN - The Ticket, and he'll also serve as the Hot Rods' media contact. Reed can be reached at dreed@bghotrods.com.
Kappes, 24, departs the Hot Rods to join the Indianapolis Indians organization at Minor League Baseball's highest level. The Kentucky native will broadcast all 144 contests alongside International League legend, Howard Kellman. The Indians are the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and play in the same league as the Durham Bulls, Tampa Bay's top farm club. Kappes will continue to broadcast Division I college basketball and soccer in the Commonwealth during the off-season on ESPN3.
Reed's first opportunity to be behind the mic for the Hot Rods will be Tuesday, April 7, when the team will take the field for the first time this season and host Western Kentucky University in a historic exhibition contest. Season ticket packages are on sale now, and they provide the most savings while offering the greatest flexibility.
