Florence, S.C. (June 7, 2015) - The perfect chance to get off the schneid, up 3-1 in the ninth inning, came crashing down due to a three-run, walk-off home run by Josh Meyer on Sunday night from Cormell Field. The Florence Redwolves defeated the Lexington County Blowfish 6-3 in the first game of a three-game swing.

The save situation was blown once Florence's Ben Holland smashed a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to straightaway center field to tie the game at 3. Holland added three RBIs on the night, giving him a total of 13 on the season.

Meyer followed that up with two on and one out, slugging the first home run hit at Cormell Field all season. J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion) appeared to have it tracked down, but the ball carried out of the park in left field, ending the game in walk-off fashion.

Resilience took hold in the sixth inning for the Blowfish. Jared Williams (University of South Carolina), who went 3-for-5 at the plate on the night, ripped a base hit to lead off. Crowe walked. Trevor Bradley (USC-Aiken) came to the dish, and saw a double steal executed to perfection--so much so that Meyer threw the ball away at third, allowing Williams to score easily and tie the game.

Connor Owings (Coastal Carolina) drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Crowe.

They would add an insurance run in the seventh inning, starting off with a double by Howard Joe (Mercer). The Blowfish loaded the bases, and with two outs, Crowe legged out an infield single to the left side of the infield to score Joe and take a 3-1 lead.

The bases would be left loaded, however, which proved costly.

Robbie Baker (Richmond) got his first start of the season. An early run allowed, an RBI single by Holland in the first inning, would be any offensive push he would allow. Additionally, Erik Davis (USC-Aiken) and Nick Wood (Oral Roberts) pitched scoreless innings in relief, setting up a chance to win for the first time since defeating Holly Springs on June 1.

Joe had a resurgent game for the Blowfish, knocking two hits. He ripped the aforementioned double, and a single in the top of the ninth inning, going 2-for-2 at the dish.

The Blowfish return home to Lexington County Baseball Stadium on Monday to take on the Florence Redwolves in the second game of this series. Tickets are available by visiting the Blowfish website at blowfishbaseball.com, calling the box office at 803-254-FISH, and at Blowfish On Main at 101 East Main Street in Lexington.
