Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks (32-23) scored three runs with two outs in the first inning and Paul Clemens went seven strong innings to guide the team to a 5-3 win over the Nashville Sounds (20-34) before 7,874 Friday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The win was the RedHawks ninth straight at home-the second-longest home winning streak since moving to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in 1998. The victory was also the ninth straight over Nashville, and it pushed the RedHawks to a season-best nine games above .500.
Nashville's Logan Schafer led off the game with a triple, but the Sounds could not capitalize and score. It was the first of three times the Sounds led an inning off with an extra-base hit and not only failed to score, but failed to advance the runner at all.
The RedHawks pounced for three runs with two outs in the first. Brett Wallace drove home the game's first run, and Angel Sanchez delivered a two-run single with the bases loaded later in the frame to make it 3-0.
Nashville's Andy Gonzalez led off the second inning with a moon shot off the LED board in left field to get the Sounds within two.
The lead was back at three in the bottom of the inning when Brian Bixler responded with his first home run since April 18 to push the lead to 4-1.
Landon Powell collected an RBI groundout in the third to plate the RedHawks fifth run. Powell finished 0-for-4, ending his 10-game hitting streak.
The score stayed 5-1 until the ninth. Nashville scored twice and put the tying run at the plate with two outs before Adalberto Flores got Jason Jaramillo to ground out and end the game.
After allowing season highs in runs and hits in his previous start, Paul Clemens (6-4) bounced back with a strong seven-inning effort. He allowed one run and five hits, with one walk and five strikeouts to earn his fourth win in his last five starts.
Nashville pitcher Wily Peralta's recent struggles continued, picking up the loss after giving up five runs and six hits over 4.1 innings. Peralta (1-7) struck out two and walked a season-high six. The Sounds pitching staff issued nine free passes for the game.
After sweeping the Sounds, the RedHawks begin a four-game set against the Iowa Cubs Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Come join the RedHawks and watch Reggy the Purple Party Dude as he entertains the crowd throughout the game.
