RedHawks Sign Pair of New Players for 2011

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed C Phil Britton and RHP Oliver Odle to American Association contracts. Both are expected to be in Fargo when the RedHawks open training camp on April 30.

Britton, 25, spent 2010 in the Baltimore Orioles organization where he spent time at three different levels. He batted .229 with five doubles, one home run, 11 RBI and seven runs scored in 26 games with Frederick Keys of the Carolina League (A). Britton hit .167 with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in ten games with the Bowie Baysox of the Eastern League (AA). He also appeared in one game for the Norfolk Tides of the International League (AAA) and was 1-for-3 at the plate.

Britton, from Olney, IL, was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 36th round of the 2004 draft out of Olney (IL) Central College and signed prior the 2005 season as a "draft and follow" player. He spent five seasons in the Braves season and advanced to the Southern League's (AA) Mississippi Braves. In his six-year professional career, Britton has hit .259 with 69 doubles, four triples, 25 home runs, 132 RBI and 140 runs scored in 328 games.

Odle, 25, pitched most of last season with the San Jose Giants of the California League (A). He was 12-7 with a 5.78 ERA in 30 games (18 starts). With San Jose, Odle pitched 123.0 innings and allowed 82 runs (79 earned) on 159 hits. He struck out 96 batters and walked just 15. Odle also appeared in two games (one start) for the Fresno Grizzlies of the Pacific Coast League (AAA), where he was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA. He pitched 5.0 innings and allowed four hits.

Odle, from Pryor, OK, was originally selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 22nd round of the 2007 draft out of Oklahoma State University. In four seasons with the Giants chain, Odle was 35-29 with a 4.68 ERA in 93 games (70 starts). He has pitched 438.0 innings and notched 321 stikeouts and walked just 58 batters.
