Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

SHREVEPORT, La. - For the second year in a row, the Shreveport-Bossier Captains will host both local and sectional competitions as part of the free Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition, the club announced Thursday.

The local round is at Fair Grounds Field on Sunday, April 24, and winners will advance to the sectional round, also at Fair Grounds Field, on Sunday, May 8. Both events begin with registration at 1 p.m.

Pitch, Hit & Run is the Official Skills Competition of Major League Baseball. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills.

Competitors are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14, and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the 2011 MLB All-Star Game in Phoenix this July.

The individual Pitching, Hitting and Running Champions, along with the All-Around Champion in each age group at the Local Competition will be awarded and advance to the Sectional Level of Competition.

All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of competition. For questions concerning the competition, please contact Captains local coordinator, Wiley Clark at wclark@sbcaptains.com or 318-636-5555.

More information and sign-up forms are available on the Captains Web site. Participants may email completed forms to Wiley Clark in advance.

The 2010 American Association Champion Shreveport-Bossier Captains begin the defense of their title on Wednesday, May 11, against the Lincoln Saltdogs, at 10:05 a.m. For information on 2011 tickets, promotions, advertising, and other opportunities with the Captains, check out the Web site as well, or call the Fair Grounds Field office at (318) 636-5555.
