
RedHawks Sign Cooney

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed LHP Nick Cooney to a contract. Cooney will be in uniform tonight as the RedHawks open a six-game homestand with the first of three against the Grand Prairie AirHogs.
Cooney, 22, recently finished his college career at Wesleyan University (NCAA Division III) in Middletown, Conn. As a senior in 2015, he was 8-2 with a 2.73 ERA in 12 games (ten starts) in leading the Cardinals to a second consecutive NESCAC title and berth in the NCAA Tournament. Cooney pitched 69.1 innings and allowed 25 runs (21 earned) on 50 hits while striking out 81 batters. Cooney was also named to the All-NESCAC Second Team.
In four years at Wesleyan, Cooney was 22-8 with a 3.23 ERA and one save. He is the school's career record holder in strikeouts (252) and allowed just 162 hits in 220.0 career innings for the Cards. He is a native of Rehoboth, Mass.
The RedHawks homestand includes six games: three against the Grand Prairie AigHogs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before the St. Paul Saints visit for three games from Saturday-Monday.
Thursday night is Military Appreciation night, with a special appearance by country music legend Lee Greenwood. Friday night features post-game fireworks, and Saturday night is a RedHawks T-Shirt Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans.
