Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND - The Alex Caldera pitched seven solid innings to provide the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks plenty of breathing room in a 4-0 victory over the Sioux Falls Pheasants on Saturday, May 26 at Newman Outdoor Field.
The Pheasants would pressure Caldera early in the top of the first inning. Sioux Falls put runners on the corners after a single by Jonny Kaplan and an error that allowed Cesar Nicolas to reach first base with two outs. Alex Cardera would strike out the next hitter Cristian Guerrero to get out of the first inning unharmed.
The RedHawks took the lead early in the bottom of the first inning after an Enrique Cruz single line drive to centerfield scored Zach Penprase from second base after he had walked earlier in the inning.
After striking out RedHawks first baseman Jorge Delgado to start the third, Pheasants starter pitcher Matthew Somme walked the next three consecutive hitters to load the bases. Centerfielder Nic Jackson hit into a fielder's choice to score Todd Jennings and give the RedHawks a 2-0 lead.
Fargo-Moorhead would stretch their lead to the final score in the fifth inning. The RedHawks began the inning with a leadoff single by Jennings and a Penprase walk. Jackson would follow Penprase by hitting a single to score Jennings from second and advance Penprase to third. Penprase would score on the following Cruz at-bat after a fielder's choice that made the score 4-0.
