Diablos Win Wild One At Cohen, Snap Losing Streak

El Paso Diablos News Release

EL PASO, TX - The Diablos racked up their third consecutive hitting outburst in their series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes, salvaging the final game with a 14-7 win that featured 27 total hits and ten pitchers between the two teams.

El Paso jumped out to an 8-3 lead thanks to several errors in the field from Winnipeg and a big night from leadoff man Maikol Gonzalez. Gonzalez was 3-for-4 on the evening with three RBI's, three-runs scored and a stolen base to lead a resurgent Diablos attack. Bryan Frichter, Uriak Marquez, Patrick Arlis and Jonathan Cisneros each added two RBI's to the cause as El Paso bruised through six Winnipeg pitchers, including losing starter Fabian Williamson (0-2) on their way to the team's second win of the young season.

The Goldeyes, as they had done in the first two games of the series, rallied against the Diablos bullpen to pull to within one run in the eighth. With the score 8-7 and the bases loaded for Winnipeg, reliever Marcel Prado came in and immediately induced an inning-ending double play ball from Chris Roberson to escape the jam.

The Diablos then added six runs of insurance in the bottom half of the frame, thanks to two of Winnipeg's five errors on the night. That included an RBI double from Prado, who hit for himself after catcher Patrick Arlis had to be removed from the game.

Prado earned the save by finishing the game with a scoreless ninth, preserving the victory for Reymond Cruz (0-1), who threw seven innings, giving up three runs on five hits and striking out seven.

The Diablos will enjoy a day off on Sunday before taking on the Kansas City T-Bones on Memorial Day at Cohen Stadium. Erik Blackwell is scheduled to get the start for El Paso.
