
Redhawks Rally for 9th Inning Victory

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-3 on Monday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. The victory improving their record to 7-4 while Gary fell to 3-8 on the year.
Gary took a 3-2 lead over the RedHawks into the bottom of the ninth inning, but three costly fielding errors in the frame by Gary led to a game-winning RBI single by 2B Carlos Cota. RHP Donnie Smith (1-0) got the win for Fargo-Moorhead with an inning of perfect relief. RHP Brad Voyles (0-2) took the loss for Gary.
RedHawks 1B Steve Mortimer gave the RedHawks a 1-0 lead with a home run over the right field wall, his fourth of the season, in the second inning. Gary tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning, when CF Rob Marconi scored off a wild pitch by RedHawks starter Dane Renkert.
It was Marconi again in the fifth with an RBI single into center field to put the RailCats up 2-1. LF Boomer Berry evened the score for the RedHawks in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI triple he buried deep into the right field corner. Marconi went to work again in the eighth when he sent one over the right field wall.
The RedHawks continue their home stand Tuesday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m. with the first of a three-game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Pitching for the RedHawks will be LHP Broc Coffman, while RHP Brandon Kintzler will take the mound for the Goldeyes.
