Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks opened a series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes with a 7-2 victory on Tuesday night at Newman Outdoor Field in front of 2,751 fans. The win improves the RedHawks record to 8-4 this season, while the Goldeyes dropped to 5-7.

The action started in the bottom of the second inning with 3B Jeff Eure smashing a homer over the left field wall, and the hits kept flowing from there. RF Steve Mortimer lobbed a double into left field with C David Castillo and 1B Alan Rick following right behind with a pair of singles. The RedHawks tacked on four runs on five hits in the second inning alone. The Goldeyes responded in the third with an RBI bunt single by SS Max Poulin and a sacrifice fly by OF Fehlandt Lentini.

It was Castillo scoring for the RedHawks in the fourth off a RHP Brandon Kintzler wild pitch making the score 5-2 in favor of the RedHawks. The Goldeyes never seemed to recover allowing two runs and two hits in the fifth.

LHP Broc Coffman (1-1) earned his first victory of the season, allowing two runs on five hits over 8.0 innings pitched. Kintzler (1-1) took the loss for the Goldeyes.

The series will continue on Wednesday morning at Newman Outdoor Field with a special 11:00 a.m. school day start. Scheduled starters are RHP Brett Lawson for Fargo-Moorhead and RHP Robert Ransom for Winnipeg.
